August Man Cave Update

So this week I’ve been finalising some plans for a new workbench in the Man Cave. It’s going to go here;

The workbench will stretch all round the far corner, and have overhangs around the pillars. I consulted some friends on the design, and the gist of it was that 10mm steel was the way forward, so I prepared the following cut diagram;

With that in mind, I sent that off to Andy at Cadcut in Bristol ( to be cut on their CNC Plasma. I then set to work on the frame to support that steel, which is the best part of a third of a ton of steel!

That’s the cutting list, and I hope to get the steel ordered and cut next week, so I can get welding next weekend 🙂

In the mean time, I finally recovered my Draper Roll Cab Base from a friend who had gone AWOL, and I’ve now taken the decision that with the workshop in the man cave being nearly ready for proper use, to abandon using the Land Rover as a mobile workshop. This means the Mid and Upper toolboxes can be sat on top of the roll cab base, and I can re-jig the tool drawers to provide easier access to stuff.

I’ve also invested in a 1m 3/4″ Breaker bar, and a 3/4″ 500Nm torque wrench 🙂

And finally, I’ve gotten round to putting the drill bed holder pieces on the wall under the alarm. Seemed like a logical spot.

Will update more when the bench is built 🙂 Next step after that is to expand the electrics (the drill needs a dedicated supply) and sort the lighting out (add more PIR’s so it doesn’t go dark if you take too long over the far side!)
