Bosch GDR-10.8-LI and GSR-10.8-2-LI Twinset
This is my latest toy, the Bosch GSR-10.8-2-LI Drill Twin Set, which includes the GDR-10.8-LI Impact Driver. I’ve had the older version of the GDR-10.8-LI for a while, in fact, since owning that one, I’ve barely used my GDR18V impact driver and only occasionally had to lug in the whole kit to use the GSR18VE-2 drill.
So when Bosch brought out a proper twist chuck drill in the 10.8V range I was interested, coupled with the new L-Boxx system and a newer, slightly shorter, GDR Impact Driver I just had to have one!
So looking on eBay I found this auction here. £175 bought me both units in the L-Boxx case. It arrives as two parts, the GSR in the L-Boxx with both batteries, and the GDR as a naked unit, with it’s own inlay for the box.
You remove the inlay to the right, and replace it with the one supplied:
Then you can add an extra battery, and the torch in the obvious positions:
The torch & extra battery aren’t supplied with the kit, I had a spare battery from my previous kit, and had bought the LED torch in addition to that. Some ebay auctions are including the torch as a triple pack, but annoyingly it doesn’t fit with the battery, so no chance to add a fourth battery to the kit!
Then I added all my normal bits from the GDR kit:
I then picked it up and heard a depressing rattle as all my bits fell down over the impact gun! And I’ve not even added any of the drill bits from my old kit yet!
Still, I reckon I can sort that out with a bit of foam for my bits to go into, and over the top. Repositioning the socket rail into the position you see there helps.
Power wise, I can’t comment yet, but if it’s as good as my previous unit I’ll be ditching the 18V kit as the ni-cad batteries don’t fare too well in the cold. I reasoned that my GBH36V-LI kit can’t drill the hole then the 18V wouldn’t cope either (and the GBH36V-LI is truly a beast, it’ll knock a 25mm hole in a double breezeblock wall without a pilot hole in next to no time. It’s an animal!).
However, they’re both light, have brilliantly bright white LED’s at their tips to light up your workplace which is dead handy, and these latest models have handy battery life indicators as well. The L-Boxx system seems well thought out, though a bit useless for me as I only have the one unit that is in that system! Might have to see if the GBH can be re-boxed!
