Just finished making & eating a very good Beef Stew.
Very simple recipe modified slightly from a Jamie Oliver one:

1 Pack of Stewing Steak, diced into 1in cubes.
1 Pack of Button Mushrooms
1 Carrot, Sliced
10 Baby Onions, topped & tailed.
Half a bottle of red wine.
Two teaspoons of Tomato Purée
400ml of Beef Stock in Water

Basically dice the meat, chop the carrots and top & tail the onions. Chuck the button mushrooms in whole. Dust the meat in flour, and pop them in with 2 teaspoons of purée, Chuck in half a bottle of wine, and the stock/water combination (boiling is best). Then throw the whole lot in the oven for 2 hours at 200.
You can add some cornflour to thicken at this point, and then pop some taters or whatever on to go with the meal. Should serve 3-4 if needed. Or two fat bastards.
